Yeah, fashion section at a bookstore. There are top makeup artists from Maybelline, Max Factor, etc.
I've heard that Ben Nye stage makeup does books with all kinds of different looks and tips.
You can sign up at CoverGirl.com for a free account, get color matched, and they will give you tips and colors that will work well for you.

there's a book called Color Insider from Mary Kay, there is also a cooresponding DVD so you can watch it get done, beyond just looking at the pictures and reading the directions. I thought it was fabulous.
It's not part of their regular line, so let me know if you need help and want to get one.
How about an Avon catalog?
