All the books by Kevyn Aucoin - The Art of Makeup, Making Faces and Face Forward are excellent resource books. I found The Art of Makeup the most helpful!

Go to a large store like Macy's cosmetic counter, they will show you how to do your makeup in order to sell you on their products. The one I liked best was a Merle Norman salon. They show you and the products are great!

what i do is just watch mtv 2 or stuff like that and get inspirations. you don't need to buy a book. just watch the models applying it.
