You could book an appt. any time now, it's never too early, and by booking now you are more gauranteed to get a good time. She gives tips for a five minute make up routine, she helps you convert using the same make up to a night look, she helps you figure out the colors and gives application tips.

Can i learn makeup application from just books?
Last year i took a makeup seminar i wont mention the name of the school but it was A WASTE OF MY MONEY!!!! $1500.00 for the class and i did not learn much...the class was so fast paced! Well i was planning on signing up in another school and start from scratch taking a basic class, but the school is $900 for a 2 week course...i really dont want to throw my money away again. a freelance makeup artist that i know told me that he learned from books and practicing on friends. Can it be possible that you learn more from books than taking an actual class???Can i learn makeup application from just books?

Also log on to youtube and if there is a particular colour you want to experiment with do a search in youtube. ie ';purple eyeshadow'; or ';purple smokey eyes'; for example; youtube will display numerous tutorials using purple eyeshadow.

It doesnt matter which ones, just any makeup books that you can get your hands on really, they'll all probably have the same tips and techinques but it wont hurt to read them all!
Also, there are some REALLY good tutorials on youtube that you could have a nosey at too... often you can read something over and over and it wont make sense but as soon as ou WATCH it, it totally clicks into place! I would highly recommend 'Sarah Victor makeup tutorials'...
ANd yeah, if you can practise on friends then thats great! Dont forget... you can also practise on yourself too! Especially handy when trying out something for the first time..
And if it seems like you cant pick things up, the main key to learning how to apply makeup is practise practise practise! Something you can do the same thing over and over and you wont get the desired result and only the most smallest change can transform it all!

I have a description of a book but I cannot remember the name or author for the life of me.
It is about a Queen who would kill her slaves in order to make makeup out of it. The makeup would keep her immortal and eventually she started harvesting girls to use their blood.

Try Beauty Riot ( a web site). Basically, all cocoa shades or olive green eye shadows are OK for you (and some violet too), and peach or pink lip gloss.
I have a different idea - Go to one of the major department stores that sell cosmetics. Walk around until you find someone behind the counter whose makeup you like. Ask them tho help you. Another place you can go is to Merle Norman as they will teach you how makeup is applied. Note of caution: Everyone has their own idea of what looks good so don't let anyone talk you into something you don't like.
If you go on sephora.com and click beauty central there is how to videos for makeup and lots of tips and stuff. You should wear brown eyeshadow and brown mascara.

If you can do this, than the rest is getting a good publisher and luck. Even Stephen King had to go through a ton of rejection before he sold Carrie.Before that, he went through even more trying to sell his first piece to a magazine.

I look at the cover, then read the back and the little part they give you in the front. Its usually something that will stand out in the book for the readers. Then I do buy it. If it doesn't have my attention by page 50 on a small book or page 100 on a big book I put it down and write them off my list. I love all kinds of books so I do read alot of new authors. I try to see who is the newest and read their reviews to see what others think

Bobbi Brown, the makeup artist, has a few books out that are really good. Try Bobbi Brown Beauty by Bobbi Brown. I also really like the book The 5-Minute Face by Carmindy (the makeup artist from What Not to Wear). You can go into any bookstore and go to the health section and there usually is a beauty section with lots of books on makeup and stuff.

Try Beauty Riot ( a web site). Basically, all cocoa shades or olive green eye shadows are OK for you (and some violet too), and peach or pink lip gloss.
I have a different idea - Go to one of the major department stores that sell cosmetics. Walk around until you find someone behind the counter whose makeup you like. Ask them tho help you. Another place you can go is to Merle Norman as they will teach you how makeup is applied. Note of caution: Everyone has their own idea of what looks good so don't let anyone talk you into something you don't like.
If you go on sephora.com and click beauty central there is how to videos for makeup and lots of tips and stuff. You should wear brown eyeshadow and brown mascara.

First off, you have to believe in the story and be able to tell it well. If you can do this, than the rest is getting a good publisher and luck. Even Stephen King had to go through a ton of rejection before he sold Carrie.Before that, he went through even more trying to sell his first piece to a magazine.

I look at the cover, then read the back and the little part they give you in the front. Its usually something that will stand out in the book for the readers. Then I do buy it. If it doesn't have my attention by page 50 on a small book or page 100 on a big book I put it down and write them off my list. I love all kinds of books so I do read alot of new authors. I try to see who is the newest and read their reviews to see what others think

Books/Tips on eye makeup?
Does anybody know of any books that tell tips on how to apply eye makeup for everyday wear? I cannot seem to ';perfect'; my everyday wear.

If you have small eyes, when you are putting on eyeliner, make sure you don't put it on both the bottom and the top of your eye, it will make you eye look even smaller. If you want your eyes look look super big, put the eyeliner on the top.
Here are some drugstore makeup product what are my absoutle favorite. :D
Foundation/ Bronzer.- Cover girl has great foundation -$12 a case. Sometimes it does give you the Shiny look, but it will be fine with a little bit of Bronzer over the top of it. I recommend www.eyeslipsface.com . The Bronzer this is great, but you have to find it to match your skin tone. Everything is 1 dollar! Best Bronzer I have ever used.
Eyeliner- Revlon eyeliner pencil- $8 at drugstores. The great thing about this eyeliner is that it doesn't smudge when you rub your eyes. And it comes in a varitey of colors and lasts forever!
Lip gloss/ Chastick- Lip gloss has an oil in it that promotes cold sores and chaped lips, no matter what kind you buy. My advise is to always apply an even layer of chapsick before you apply the lip gloss, that way the lipgloss won't be touching any skin and will keep your lips shiny without cold sores. (any kind of lip gloss is acceptable, my favorite is anything from eyeslipsface.com.)
Mascara- Maybelline Collassal Volume Express Mascara (The kind in the yellow bottle -$3 at drugstores) is amazing, it doesn't clump your lashes and doesn't leave you with racoon eyes when you go to take it off.
if drugstore brands isn't what suit you, try Clinique. It is 100% allergy tested, so if you have sensitive skin, this makeup is the best thing for you.

Can i learn makeup application from just books?
Last year i took a makeup seminar i wont mention the name of the school but it was A WASTE OF MY MONEY!!!! $1500.00 for the class and i did not learn much...the class was so fast paced! Well i was planning on signing up in another school and start from scratch taking a basic class, but the school is $900 for a 2 week course...i really dont want to throw my money away again. a freelance makeup artist that i know told me that he learned from books and practicing on friends. Can it be possible that you learn more from books than taking an actual class???Can i learn makeup application from just books?
i would definetely recommened using books!
It doesnt matter which ones, just any makeup books that you can get your hands on really, they'll all probably have the same tips and techinques but it wont hurt to read them all!
Also, there are some REALLY good tutorials on youtube that you could have a nosey at too... often you can read something over and over and it wont make sense but as soon as ou WATCH it, it totally clicks into place! I would highly recommend 'Sarah Victor makeup tutorials'...
ANd yeah, if you can practise on friends then thats great! Dont forget... you can also practise on yourself too! Especially handy when trying out something for the first time..
And if it seems like you cant pick things up, the main key to learning how to apply makeup is practise practise practise! Something you can do the same thing over and over and you wont get the desired result and only the most smallest change can transform it all!
PS - $1500 was a totaly rip off!!!

i think depending on the instructor makeup classes can be a real waste of money. you can learn a lot by going to the MAC makeup counter or somewhere else and asking for them to do a full makeup on you. have them explain the why and how of each step. then you can do it yourself.blonde hair

i think depending on the instructor makeup classes can be a real waste of money. you can learn a lot by going to the MAC makeup counter or somewhere else and asking for them to do a full makeup on you. have them explain the why and how of each step. then you can do it yourself.

I also have a book called, ';Teen Beauty Secrets: Fresh, Simple %26amp; Sassy Tips for Your Perfect Look'; which is GREAT! they cover all subjects for teenage girls - from pimples to natural looking make up to packing for college and dressing for nice events. I love it, and they give tons of at-home recipes for fun masks and face scrubs. I would suggest this book, I got it for $15 at Vromans.

From there I printed almost the entire ';learn'; section.
I'm putting it in a binder for her along with some other tips %26amp; hints that I've found online. I've found a lot of websites that have excellent printable materials %26amp; diagrams, etc
There's also webs with instructional videos. Such as the Seventeen Magazine one.
This way I was able to customize the material for her %26amp; staying in accordance to her parents wishes.
The ';Color Workshop'; gift kits are inexpensive %26amp; the shadows %26amp; blushes %26amp; lipsticks are also very sheer %26amp;light 'tints'.....just what a 13 year old should be wearing %26amp; experimenting with.
I don't have kids myself, but I assure you I am the favorite ';Aunt'; to several youngsters, that are a part of my life.

Her books are definitely worth picking up if you want to know the truth, and giving it to a 13 year old is great, because it teaches her right from the start what she should and shouldn't do with her skin and makeup to achieve radiance.

For example, their 80 color eyeshadow palette comes with lip color, bronzer and powder. They have a smoky eyes kit that comes with eyeshadow, eyeliner, and a brush (I think even mascara) You would also need a countouring kit.
Real makeup artists have a wide variety of top quality makeup such as MAC, Lancome, Chanel, etc. They have the foundation, blush and lip palettes for every skin tone, and a wide variety of eyeshadow colors to suit every occasion and eye color. They also tend to have primers and different powders for shimmer or finish and contouring makeup.
And as for your books, youtube and the internet is all you need as a beginner. And its free.
They have everything you need to achieve any basic look if you don't really know anything about makeup. Don't believe me? Check it out.
i was a make up disaster so i myself started going through various books n stuff but i never got the hang of it..but i understood it visually when i see others applying..i think that's the best way of learning yourself..there are so many such wonderful stuff about applying make in youtube..i advise u to check that out.

';Making Faces'; by Kevin Aucoin is still one of my favorites. I think that there are still many timeless looks in there that are good for reference in terms of application techniques. I try to update looks by incorporating new textures and products (e.g. a more ';matte'; look lip is used often in his book whereas I prefer glosses). Also try searching under beauty at any major bookstore or at Amazon. Another great makeup resource with great advice and tutorials on the web is makeupalley. IMO making faces is the best as far as straight makeup application. If you are wanting to get into stage and screen makeup, mehron has a great instruction book as does Kyron. Make sure you enlist a few friends of various facial structure and color to practice on. Also, look into stage makeup classes at local community colleges. They can teach you about character makeup and help you with techniques that can carry over into straight makeup. Plus, once you can cover a flaw on stage, doing weddings is a piece of cake.
I mastered makeup from being in drama and a dancer by helping with prep back stage and tying my lil sister down and practice practice practice.
great question! for one, i would suggest that you go to barnes %26amp; noble and camp out in the beauty book section for a couple of hours. i've done this before, and it's very helpful. at least skim thru a few different books, b/c every author has different things that they mention and emphasize. you'll get a little something from each one. then, if you find one that focuses more on something you're specifically interested in, buy that one.
also, you can get a lot of info for free by borrowing from the local library (granted, you will find a lot of ';dated'; material, but it's a place to start).

Hi, I have worked a lot to stream-line my life but there are a few problems I am still having, I can control the amount of clothing by throwing out one item every time I buy a new one, and of course buying else, but what about things like books and dvds? Or makeup, which you need a variety of for different occasions? For books I prefer to buy them rather than use the library because of availibility and cleanliness, convenience, etc., and dvds are just great to have around. Would appreciate your thoughts. I only buy something IF I know I need it.
When I know I an collecting too much, I periodically go through my stuff and get rid of non-used stuff. I donate books to the library. Clothes and other stuff goes to charity. (tax write off besides helping people).
You can also sell used books (after you have read them) on Half.com. It's really easy.

I have struggled for years with clutter and have found that there are 2 extremes; 1. too simplified where you spend more on things because you don't own it already (as in buying when not on sale because you are afraid to stock up) or 2. too much of everything.
I have found that the best way to handle things is to make sure everything has a ';home.'; If you buy something and have a place for it then you are ';streamlining.'; Whereas if something will have no place or overflow a closet, drawer, etc. it is too much and clutter. Thus, everything is about organization. Some really great sites to look at are Marthastewart.com and realsimple.com. They have the best ways to organize specific things like cds, etc. and help you streamline. Good Luck!

And what ever doesn't sell give to the needy, like the salvation army, or donate it to the women's shelter, or places like that. Or you can keep having a garage sale until you get rid of all the stuff you don't want.
well for books. I buy heirloom leather copies of books that I want to keep. But these would not necessarilly be anything but REAL literature or biographies I buy a lot from
CDs you can buy as much as you want from like iTunes. No CD there. Just BACKUP your files to memory cards.
I packed away my CD/DVD cases and keep my actual discs in an album.
Throw out cardboard boxes. They not only attrack bugs but you can usually stack clear plastic storage totes and see whats in them.
We also bought the Sony ereader. I reviewed it on my website.
